Parents and citizens association

The parents and citizens association (P&C) are a group of involved parents who are committed to ensuring that the best possible learning environment is created for all of the children at Glenhaven Public School.

As a P&C association, we have been established to:

  • Promote the interest of the school by bringing parents, citizens, students and teaching staff into close co-operation.
  • Assist in providing facilities and equipment for the school and promoting the recreation and welfare of the students at the school.

We are proud to be part of, and represent, such a strong and supportive school community. Through our welcoming approach and transparent communication, we strive to maintain this valued sense of community amongst our children, parents, staff and the greater Glenhaven community. Our P&C also operates our school's uniform shop and canteen.

We work collaboratively with, and are generously supported by, our parent body, the Principal and staff of our school to help make Glenhaven Public School the only place to be!

P&C meetings

Our P&C meetings provide a forum for open discussion between the parents of our school community and our teaching staff, represented by our Principal, Mrs. Kerry Maxwell. At these meetings we discuss the ways in which the P&C can support the activities of our school, our priorities for fundraising, our progress and ultimately how these funds will be reinvested to enrich the learning environment for our children.

The P&C meeting is the only place to be on the first Tuesday of every month at 7pm in the staff room as Glenhaven Public School (excluding school holidays). Any member of our school community is welcome to join us.

P&C events

This year there will be several community based events. Further information will be provided as dates become closer.  Events will be as follows:

  • Mufti Theme Days: Various themes allows children to come dressed out of uniform and donate a gold coin. These days usually take place on the last week of each Term.
  • Mother's Day Stall: Your child can place an order and they will bring something special home for Mum or Nan. Ordering is generally done through FlexiSchools. The stall is held on the Wednesday prior to Mother's Day.
  • Father's Day Stall: Your child can place an order and they will bring something special home for Dad or Pop. Ordering is generally done through FlexiSchools. The stall is held on the Wednesday prior to Father's Day.
  • Father's Day Breakfast: An opportunity for Dads and Pops to come and have breakfast with your children before school starts. Come dressed in your favourite Jersey and support Jersey Day, a simple concept designed to raise awareness of the Organ and Tissue Authority and Donate Life Network and have a conversation with your friends and family about Organ Donation. This event occurs on the Friday prior to Father's Day.
  • Movies Under the Stars: An evening where you can come along with your family and friends and enjoy a movie under the stars. This event usually takes place in October.

Fundraising goal

One of our objectives as P&C is to assist the school in providing facilities and equipment. We do this by requesting a voluntary contribution from each student to ensure the events we do run are for the benefit of the community and enable the students and community become one and have some fun. The $80.00 voluntary contribution is applied to your Term 2 school fees and is paid directly to the office.

All our monies raised, less some operational costs, is donated back to the school and used to reach our objectives and to make Glenhaven Public School ‘the only place to be'.

2018 goal

Our Goal for 2018 is to complete the installation of large seating adjacent to the back oval which will be utilised by the whole school.  the seating will be wide enough to sit comfortable on and enjoy a quiet game, chat with friends or to cheer on fellow students.

Over the past few years the P&C Association has successfully made invaluable donations to the school which have been made possible from the voluntary contribution paid by families. Examples of these are:

2017 - Concrete Seating adjacent to Oval

We funded the design and installation of large concrete seating adjacent to the back oval which is utilised by the whole school during recess and lunch time and during events held on the oval. The seating is wide enough to sit comfortably on and enjoy a quiet game, a chat with friends or to cheer on fellow students. We also funded the new turfing for the refurbishment of the oval. The oval has been completely stripped, topsoiled and had new turf and a irrigation system installed. Assisting the school in this project has been invaluable to the students having a beautiful oval to play and learn on.

2016 - Outdoor Learning Area

We created an outdoor learning space with the purchase and installation of six outdoor seating/table structures for teachers and your children to enjoy the outdoors whilst learning. These seating structures are towards the back of the school near the basketball court and are used regularly during class time and are always full of fun and laughter during recess and lunch. They have been an invaluable addition to the school. We also purchased and had installed new seating in bus bay which has helped streamline the bus bay process immensely.

2015 - Refurbishment of our Library

This included new resources for the library such as more current fiction to keep our older students interested in reading, reference tools for the children to use and technology that can help improve literacy and information skills, comfortable soft furnishings and rugs to create areas for children to relax while they read, new shelving and display areas to showcase the books and allow easier access for the kids, repainting the walls and ceiling, new chairs for students to use at the tables and a bright new circulation desk to create an orderly flow and organise the borrowing system more effectively.
